The Kindle has been a hot Christmas gift this year. One of the direct results of this will be that hundreds of thousands of people will be getting their new Kindles on Christmas.
The first thing they’ll do – Set off to buy books.
The first place they’ll look – The Kindle Bestseller lists.
Electronic Arts is making the most of the opportunity by introducing a 50% off sale on its 4 apps. The sale starts at 3 am EST on the 20th.
- EA Solitaire is just $2.
- EA Texas Hold’em is just $2.
- EA Sudoku is just $2.
- Scrabble is $2.50.
The sale runs from the 20th of December through the 2nd of January, 2011.
At these prices, all 4 apps are good value for money.
Why this is a very smart Kindle App sale
By starting it around the 20th, EA gets enough momentum to have a few games in the Top 10 by Christmas. That’s when new Kindle owners arrive at the store, and start buying whatever they see.
That one week, December 25th through January 1st, will see more sales of books, and perhaps apps, than any other week of the year. EA gets to make a lot of money from apps that have already done well.
Will Kindle Owners Bite?
It’s a good question.
First possibility is that most of the people who wanted to buy these apps, have already bought them. In which case it won’t do much.
Second possibility is that, at $2 per app, Kindle owners will feel there’s enough value for money. In that case, the plan would work perfectly for EA.
