  5. Can an event span across 2 or more days?

I use this function in other calendars when I’ll have visitors for several days or plan to travel for several days :-)

    • FreddyP, it can’t.

      Here’s a workaround:

      ****
To do an all day vacation from July 5th to 15th you could do the following:

      1) Add a New Event on July 5th. Pressing N when cursor is on July 5th in Month View will do that. Or you could go to July 5th and then click on the Add Event button.
      2) Click on the Time: Field -> On the duration field press down until you get ‘Day’. It goes from 30 to 25 to 20 to 15 to 10 to Day.
      3) Press Enter to confirm ‘Day’ as your duration. Time and To will both change to All Day.
      4) Set Repeats to Every Day.
      5) In the Until field choose Repeats Starting – July 5th, and Repeats Until – July 15th.

      **
It won’t give you one event that spans days but it will give you All Day events in each of July 5th through 15th.

Since it is a series (A Recurring Event) you can delete them all at once by pressing Alt+Del on any one of them and choosing Series button.

      • Thanks! This workaround will work for me. Maybe spanning dates fro a single item in a future version?

  6. Great app! Worked with it for a few hours and it is easy to use.

Any chance of including a yearly view so we could jump to and/or look at items several months away?

I posted this comment somewhere else on the site (not sure where)….please forgive duplicate post.

  7. I am hoping that a way to sync calendars on different Kindles is in the works, but after reading the Help files it sounds like the way to accomplish this in the meantime is:

    1. Backup from Kindle (A) to a PC
    2. Transfer the backup file from the PC to Kindle (B)

Has anyone tried this? Love the app, BTW.

  8. On my calendar, the date is wrong. Today is Sunday, July 24,2011, but my calendar says it is Thursday, August 5, 2010. How do I fix the date?

    • Kiatlyn, the Calendar App uses the Kindle’s time and date.

You can update your Kindle’s date and time by connecting to Whispernet (Kindle Home Page – press Menu and click on ‘Turn Wireless On’) and then Syncing (Kindle Home Page again – press Menu and click on ‘Sync and Check for Items’).

You can check Kindle date and time by typing ‘date’ on the Kindle Home Page and pressing Search. First search result shows the date and time.

  9. I really need the ability to repeat an event “every other” day, week, month…. Example I am paid every other week…my work schedule is one week MTFS, the next week it is SWT. Is there a convenient way to set this scheduling up? Thanks, Ken

  10. I have created a few events as “all day” and now the calendar has that date going into TWO PAGES. How can I delete??? When I go to “Page 2 of 2″ and try to delete the time showing, nothing happens

    • You can move between pages using Previous Page and Next Page. Is there a particular reason you don’t want two pages?

If you press Aa key you will get an option to Hide Empty Slots. That’s one way to show only events and not the blank slots. There’s no way to delete a particular time slot.

  11. Just want to second Ken’s request: Having the option of “Every Other” would be a huge help!

  12. I was inputing data into my calendar, and suddenly all my events disappeared for the month. Poof, all gone. Even more frustrating, when I go back and try to re-add the stuff, I get a message saying it saved, but still nothing is showing. It only seems to be happening in 1 month (Sept 2011) which was the month I was working in when it all went fubar. All other months are ok. What is causing this?? I can’t find any help or documentation on this problem anywhere.

    • John, I’ve sent you an email. It seems something has corrupted the file specific to september. Each month has its own data file so the other months are safe.

Email has detailed steps. Adding some tips here for anyone else who runs into something like this.

First Thing I would recommend is backing up your existing data in one of the empty slots on the Backup Page. Menu > Back up Events.
Second – back up data to your PC or Mac.

Third Thing would be to check the autobackup slot and your own backup slots to see if that brings up the lost events. And fixes the issue.

      That should do it.

In rare case it doesn’t you have to go into the user folder (Help section has steps, folder path will be *in the drive corresponding to your Kindle* \.active-content-data\8aff8bf02f358d51012ff71b04f40002\work\user) and delete the file corresponding to the month that is causing problems and save fresh.

For September it will be named y2011m8 and so forth. Where 2011 is the year and m8 represents the 8th month i.e. September.

Then when you save a new Event in September the events should start saving fine.

  13. just boght the calendar for kindle. seems great but just cant set correctly todays date. it keeps showing august 13, 2010 as today. what can i do to change it???

    • Go to your Kindle’s home page.

Press Menu and in Menu click on Turn Wireless On. If wireless is on already – then do nothing.

Press Menu again and click on sync and check for items. this will update Kindle time.

Calendar uses Kindle time so updating Kindle time will update Calendar time.

  14. Where can I find a Video on using the Calendar App for kindle? Does one exist? Jack

    • Jack, The videos are done but I have to upload them and do some selecting etc. They should be up by Monday.

  15. I am having the same problem as John:

When I deleted the “problem month – November” events for the next month, December shifted to November. I ended up restoring the “auto save” backup which had no events and started entering events all over again. So far so good. I would appreciate any help on this in case it happens again. In the mean time I am doing regular backups.

    • Steve,
we have an update for Calendar that fixes this issue you have submitted. When it’s out it’ll be available and will eliminate this problem.

      ************
The steps you wrote will work.

Cause of the problem – sometimes, using / and ‘ in the names of todo list items causes problems. For some reason, even though it shouldn’t, it corrupts the file.

One way to avoid the problem is to not use things like / ‘ ” in the items that you have in a ToDo List.

      **************

I would recommend doing backups. the update is in the Amazon approval process which unfortunately is not very fast. When it’s out I’ll send you an email.

  16. Can you transfer calander events from your computer to this app? (i.e. from microsoft?

  17. When will your updated versions of Calendar, Notepad & Calculator be ready for Kindle Touch? Or do the current versions work on Kindle Touch?

    • Steve, Calendar and Notepad Touch versions we are working on. They should be ready in the near to mid-term. Calculator for Kindle touch we haven’t started on yet. Not sure when we’ll do that.

  18. I have this Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051QVESA/?tag=kreview-20

Will the calendar app work with my version?

I have the Notepad app, and I like the fact that I can edit the files on my PC. Can calendar information be edited on the PC as well?

    • Curtis – yes, Calendar works on the Kindle (4). We do not recommend editing Calendar information on the PC. The app structure is significantly different from Notepad.

  19. I believe that this is the most important Kindle App EVER, and the second most important available feature, just below the reading feature, but above checking e-mail. I was disappointed when discovered that it is not supported by Kindle Touch, incompatibility probably caused by the new interface based on HTML5 and not JAVA. But I’m sure that 7 Dragons is (are?) working hard to fix that. I’m just waiting for the touch-compatible Kindle Calendar. Anxiously. I would happily pay 10 U.S. dollars for that app! Good luck on that work, 7 Dragons!

  20. So, I put the calendar app on my Kindle Touch. I’m not super-thrilled with it at the moment. It becomes unresponsive periodically–especially it seems when I am messing with the ToDo list. Aside from that, it is exactly what I want, so I’m hoping this is just a bug you’ll be able to work out of it. The Kindle itself never locks up–just calendar becomes unresponsive.

  21. What would really be useful is a copy — or better yet, a sync — function to connect with Outlook. It would be worth far more than you are charging for the app to me.

  22. I just downloaded Calendar and it looks like it will serve my purposes well. I saw the various keyboard shortcuts in the built-in help. I came here hoping to find the list so I could print them out to refer to them until I memorize them…but a simple list is not in your pdf documentation. Having the shortcuts all in one place as a printable reference may help more than just me.
