Through September 3, select Kindle study aids are only $0.99 each.  These apps are very useful  tools for students who may wish to refresh for school.

Kindle App Sale on Scrabble & Slingo

Just a quick update on a Kindle App Sale:

  1. Scrabble is just $1 now. It’s rated 3.5 stars on 206 reviews. A few of the negative reviews were due to it having a dark, hard to read screen and that has been partially fixed (at least the update for it claims so). A lot of the newer negative reviews are due to the AI being a bit flexible about the rules when it benefits it personally. Scrabble, thanks to the sale, is at #2 in the Kindle Store.
  2. Slingo by Gameblend Studios is also on sale for $1. It’s a combination of Slots and Bingo and is a real customer favorite – it’s rated 4.5 stars on 34 reviews. It’s at #79 in the Kindle Store.

It’s quite interesting the way Amazon keeps running these periodic sales.

Kindle App Sale ($1 Fitness Apps)

Amazon has started a sale on 3 Kindle Fitness Apps from Nickel Buddy. They are at $1 each.

  1. My Yoga Studio by Nickel Buddy. Price: $1.99. Genre: Kindle Fitness App, Kindle Yoga App. Rated 4 stars on 15 reviews.
  2. Anywhere Abs by Nickel Buddy. Price: $1.99. Genre: Kindle Fitness App, Kindle Exercise App. Rated 4 stars on 16 reviews.
  3. Anywhere Legs by Nickel Buddy. Price: $1.99. Genre: Kindle Fitness App, Kindle Exercise App. Rated 3 stars on 1 review – someone who’s upset there isn’t an audible timer. There’s nothing Nickel Buddy can do about that – Kindle Apps don’t have any sound API so they can’t have sound.

They are all good, solid apps – useful to have on your Kindle if you want an exercise companion app with some basic exercises and exercise routines. The reviews are mostly positive.

Kindle App Sales following a pattern?

Kindle App Sales always entail – apps marked down to $1, a duration of two weeks, apps from a single developer. The sole exception was the one time that 10 different apps were put on sale (they were, however, at $1 each and were on sale for exactly two weeks).

Perhaps Amazon has found that a markdown to $1 is the most effective sale strategy.

Amazon is having a 50% off sale on Kindle Language Apps from 24/7 Tutor. The link goes to a page that list all 8 apps -

  1. 24-7 Spanish – Basic Phrases. Price: $1.99. This has shot all the way to the Top 50 and is currently at #45. It’s rated 3.5 stars on 1 review.
  2. 24-7 Spanish – Vocabulary. Price: $1.99. This is rated 4 stars on 1 review and is at #89 in the Kindle Store.
  3. 24-7 French – Basic Phrases. App Price: $1.99. This is rated 4 stars on 3 reviews. This is at sales rank #183.
  4. 24-7 French – Vocabulary. Kindle App Price: $1.99. This is rated 2.5 stars on 2 reviews. This is at sales rank #285.
  5. 24-7 Italian – Vocabulary. Kindle App Price: $1.99. This is rated 4 stars on 1 review. This is at sales rank #210.
  6. 24-7 Italian – Basic Phrases. Price: $1.99. No reviews. This is at sales rank #191.
  7. 24-7 German – Vocabulary. Price: $1.99. No reviews. This is at sales rank #407.
  8. 24-7 German – Basic Phrases. Price: $1.99. No reviews. This is at sales rank #318.

The sale ends on May 11th so there’s still some time. I grabbed the French Apps and they’re quite good.

With French – Basic Phrases, for example,

  1. You get 11 categories of phrases – first phrases, greetings, get to know, communication, questions, wants & needs (two categories), how you feel, interjections, to go.
  2. Within each category, you get 5 options for how you want to learn the phrases – a study list, multiple-choice quiz, a puzzle mode, write-in answers mode, flash cards.
  3. There’s no sound since Kindle Apps can’t support sound yet.
Overall, it’s a good little app. Apart from the lack of sound, it’s pretty cool.

Kindle App Sale on Choose Your Own Adventure Apps

Amazon has put two Choose Your Own Adventure Apps from Choice of Games on sale -

  1. Choice of the Dragon is now just $1. It’s normally $5 which is a ridiculous price. At $1 it’s good value for money. It’s rated 4.5 stars on 34 reviews.
  2. Choice of Broadsides is also just $1. It’s normally $5 which is ludicrous. It’s rated 4 stars on 18 reviews.

This Kindle App Sale is only till January 31st so get them now if you’re interested.

Why aren’t there more Kindle App Sales?

That’s a good question. Part of it is that the Kindle App Store is starting off and there aren’t that many titles. Part of it is that Amazon is still figuring out what price apps need to be at to sell well.

There have been a lot of sales in the past 6 weeks – Electronic Arts’ 50% off sale, Choice of Games’ $1 Kindle App Sale, and Mobigloo’s 50% off sale on Mahjong Solitaire.

Amazon is making the most of December and January buying. Wonder which company’s apps will be featured in the next Kindle App Sale.
